The first induction ceremonies in more than two years saw hockey builder Allan Andrews, and Kings County baseball legend Louie Murphy, join the PEI Sports Hall of Fame recently.

Andrews, whose hockey school has attracted tens of thousand of people from around the world in its 40 years of existence, helped educate some of the finest players in recent memory, including Sidney Crosby and Brad Richards.

His innovative ideas around teaching have earned him the title of the “Hockey Professor”, and his philosophy has always been one of shaping the individual, and giving them the self-belief and encouragement to go and be the best person they can be.

Louie Murphy has pitched in more than seven decade of baseball, his rubber arm seeing him become a legend in Kings County, where he played on those great Morell teams of the 60s and 70s.

Crowds would come out just to see Louie pitch, and he rarely disappointed. In his later years he would often dominate in old-timers and senior competitions, despite being much older than many of his teammates and opponents.

Both Andrews and Murphy were inducted in private ceremonies attended by close family, friend and team-mates.

The Hall looks forward to carrying out more inductions throughout 2022.
